The Derry Prequel Series Debuts Second Ahead of Schedule on the Streaming Platform
Audiences are thrilled for the horror series the Derry series, already receiving positive feedback and weaving in references from the broader King universe. Just one day after launch, the network announced that the second installment will arrive early, scheduled ideally for October 31st.
Premiere Shift Information
Kicking off on the last day of October at 12 a.m. Pacific Time, the next part of the Derry prequel will launch on HBO Max, ahead of its linear broadcast. Future chapters of the series run will premiere on the weekend on HBO and HBO Max, building toward the final episode on the 14th of December.
Show Background
Based in the Derry mythology, Welcome to Derry borrows elements from the original story while building upon the universe established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in It and It Chapter Two. It Chapter One highlighted young characters facing unimaginable horrors, making it appropriate that the series continues that tradition. Nevertheless, the premiere episode of the HBO series proves it aimed to escalate the fear, providing even more intense scares than the movies and setting a brutal tone for what's to come.
Premise and Ideas
Set in 1962, the series introduces a new generation of adults and children inhabiting a apparently peaceful community concealing a sinister core. Derry functions through a cruel, recurring cycle—one marked by violence, bigotry, and the supernatural, as a evil entity resurfaces each 27-year cycle. Although It: Welcome to Derry might appear like it skews too close to the movies on the surface, what sets apart the streaming show is its parallel storytelling—unfolding through the viewpoints of young and old at the same time. The kids stay highly exposed to It's terror, but older characters don't escape confronting their personal demons born from Derry’s deep-seated bigotry and hidden paranormal elements.
Episode 2 debuts on Halloween at 3 a.m. EST.
